Bericht von Markus Groß zum EBA Meeting
Anstrengend war's; aber schön und hilfreich.
Mittlerweile zum 5. Male trafen sich die nationalen Vertreter der European Bowhunting Association.
Dieses Mal war's mal wieder in Deutschland, genauer in Buttenheim bei Bamberg.
Es waren nicht ganz so viele Nationen anwesend wie letztes Jahr in Österreich, aber genug zu tun gab es trotzdem.
Teilgenommen hat Schweden, Portugal, Österreich, Frankreich, Spanien, Dänemark, Slowenien, Kroatien (neues Mitglied), Ungarn und Deutschland.
Verhindert waren leider Finnland, Bulgarien, Norwegen und Italien.
Im Sinne der Förderung der Bogenjagd in Europa und darüber hinaus wurden auch dieses Jahr viele Ideen ausgetauscht, über Aktionen, Erfolge und Misserfolge berichtet, länderspezifische Situationen und Zukunftsausblicke dargestellt und gemeinsam Strategien entwickelt.
Besonders erfreulich war der Besuch des Präsidenten der Archery Trade Association, Jay McAninch mit seiner Tochter Becky sowie seiner rechten Hand Michelle Doerr in ihrer Aufgabe als Education and Research Coordinator der Bowhunting Preservation Alliance.
Die Gäste aus den Staaten konnten sich nun ein Bild über die Bogenjagd-Situationen in den europäischen Ländern machen und erörterten wie die ATA weiterhin unterstützend tätig sein kann.
Jay McAninch erläuterte zudem die Situation in den USA mit Daten und Fakten und räumte so manches Missverständnis hierzulande aus.
Er ist studierter Wildbiologe von Hause aus und es war ein Highlight im zuhören zu können. Sachlich und gelassen, ohne jegliche Arroganz und im saubersten Englisch, ließ er uns an seinem enormen Wissen und Fachverstand teilhaben.

ATA Attends European Bowhunting Association Meeting
On March 1-3, Jay McAninch, ATA president/CEO, and Michelle Doerr, ATA's director of archery and bowhunting programs, attended the European Bowhunting Association (EBA) meeting in Buttenhiem, Germany. Becky McAninch, who is fluent in Spanish, German, and Latin and has traveled extensively in Europe, attended to help with communication issues. The American delegation was invited to attend by the EBA's President, Anders Gejer of Sweden. As a gesture of support, ATA funded the costs of the meeting facilities and room and board for the attendees.
Each of the eleven attending European countries reported on their country's bowhunting status and efforts to establish and improve the sport. Countries like Sweden, Germany and Austria, where bowhunting is banned, spend much of their time working with natural resource and environmental officials to overcome centuries of bias about archery's hunting effectiveness. Countries that allow bowhunting reported on education and training programs which are often managed for each country by hunting organizations. Countries with new bowhunting programs, such as Croatia, desperately need help translating bowhunter education materials
into their native language. In addition, these countries need to customize bowhunting materials to address each country's specific regulatory requirements.
All EBA country representatives voiced the need for access to technical, scientific and governmental bowhunting publications and information. Data on archery equipment's effectiveness and the use of bowhunting to manage game populations are essential to European bowhunting expansion. ATA agreed to try to fulfill these needs and will continue to work with EBA throughout the year to support ongoing bowhunting expansion efforts. In addition, ATA agreed to attend and sponsor the 2008 EBA meeting in Paris, France. At the invitation of ATA, many EBA members will attend the 2008 ATA Trade Show, January 10-12 in Indianapolis.
"The remarkable thing about the EBA members is that they are so
appreciative of anything we do for them," said McAninch. "The EBA is one of the most positive groups with whom we've ever worked and their camaraderie is remarkable. They have accomplished lots in the face of challenges that are extremely difficult, yet their attitudes are so good. It was a pleasure to support their efforts and we'll work hard to help them expand opportunities."
